Cold Calling - The reason why we do it.

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

I’ve been doing a little cold calling for DBO over the past few days. I spend about 15 minutes over every call with research and data entry, and have had some pretty good results so far. Here they are in a nutshell:

  • Researched 30 potential galleries to display DBO’s work
  • Cold Called 27 of the 30 galleries, each time I got through to the decision maker.
  • Sent out 26 copies of DBO’s .pdf file
  • Received 4 requests for more information.
  • Pieces of art sold = 3.
  • Average number of cold calls to sales 9.
  • I also have 27 people to phone warm next time round :)

Now I know that cold calling isn’t right for every product and service, but in many businesses it’s a proven way of generating extra income and a really cost effective method of targeting new leads. The rise of the internet has made it really easy to find the details of the company you want to target. This makes researching, cold calling and emailing promotional materials much more effective.
Coming soon, my cold calling tips.

Procrastination costs money

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

I’ve spoken to loads of clients throughout my career and one point seems to come up far too often.
I wish I’d,… I should have,… looking back……
I was speaking to a really nice lady called Jane at the Urban Paint Festival in Bristol on Sunday. She loved urban art and had been following the scene for several years. After a few minutes of chat I asked whether she buys any. She smiled at me and said, I wish I did. I was at Banksys first exhibition, where prints were going for £60. Ouch, now they go for £3600 or more….
I’ve got a similar story with Gold, just ask my Dad.
If you see something you like, and can afford it, and it looks like it could go up in value. BUY it.

Outside ideas at the urban paint festival

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Outside ideas visited Bristol today to support young up and coming artist DBO in his work. DBO was amongst 40 of the UK’s top British Urban painters on show at this fantastic event. DBO was thrilled to be included on at the event and sees his inclusion as a step closer to his dream. DBO recently sold 2 of his pieces at an auction along side the likes of Banksy and Inky. Whilst his pieces didn’t quite make millions this time they still managed a very respectable £450 each. His work is only going to get more valuable folks, get it while its hot.
